Common name: Primrose
Primula ‘Wanda’ is a small, cheerful perennial in the Heather Garden and scattered in other areas. This heirloom variety is a hybrid cross between P. juliae and a crimson form of P. acaulis. Wanda won the RHS AGM (Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit) in 1919. Wanda blooms in spring, loves damp soil in sun or shade, and quickly makes a large clump. And just to keep you on edge, Wanda’s flower colour varies from red to purple. Although she is not a fussy plant, Wanda should be divided every few years to look her best. Wanda might be small but she is the toughest of all the primroses.
The pictures were taken in early spring in the Heather Garden - bed 66B.
