March 9, 2023: Diane Watson, Special Projects Coordinator on the Science and Research Team at ISCBC - Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) in BC The Japanese beetle is an invasive insect that presents a severe threat to the horticultural and agricultural industries in BC. It has been present in BC since 2017 and a multi-organizational eradication effort is underway. This presentation will outline the role that each organization has, eradication progress since 2017, and actions that the public can do to assist with eradication.
Diane is a Special Projects Coordinator on the Science and Research Team at ISCBC, supporting various projects throughout the organization including the coordinated efforts of the Japanese beetle response in BC. With the diverse experience she's gained in the environmental sector of industry, local government and NGOs in a few years, she's driven to continue learning and sharing knowledge to encourage others to protect biodiversity where they live.
