Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe'
Common name: Heather
Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe' is a hardy evergreen shrub with an upright habit. It grows to about 30 centimetres (12 inches) in height. It was bred to be non-flowering, and has neither buds nor flowers. Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe' is prized for its vivid foliage. The younger foliage ranges from lime green to orange, while the mature foliage ranges from rusty orange to red.
Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe' was bred and introduced at Edewecht, Germany by Kurt Kramer, a German nurseryman and plant breeder. Kurt Kramer's goal was to create a heather which flowered later in the year than the natural and randomly occurring varieties and also provided colour over a long period of time.
Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe' is one of Kurt Kramer's Gardengirls series of heathers. Gardengirls varieties provide a long lasting display of colour.
Calluna vulgaris 'Zoe' can be found in the Heather Garden.
