Common Name: Cosmos
Cosmos bipinnatus is the quintessential cottage garden plant and takes over from the delphiniums in the Alma VanDusen Garden. It is a half-hardy annual and often reseeds itself.
In the summer of 2021, we planted Cosmos 'Dr. Bonnie Henry Pollinator Blend' along the front of the Sunflower Garden. It is a mix of C. bipinnatus and C. sulphureus in pastel colours favoured by Dr. Bonnie.
Chocolate cosmos (C. atrosanguineus) is often planted in the Fragrance Garden because of its 'Hershey Bar' fragrance. Its dark red-brown-blackish flowers attract pollinators.
