Common name: St. Dabeoc's Heath, Irish Heath
Daboecia cantabrica subsp. scotica 'William Buchanan Gold' is a low-growing evergreen shrub that grows to a height of about 21 to 25 centimetres (8 to 10 inches) and can be used as a groundcover. It has large, urn-shaped magenta flowers which bloom from late spring to autumn. Its lance-shaped leaves are dark green and have felty undersides.
D. cantabrica subsp. scotica 'William Buchanan Gold' is a sport of 'William Buchanan'. It was found by Clive Baulu of Hardwick's Nursery, Newick, Sussex, England in about 1970. Its name alludes to the foliage colour and the parent cultivar.
D. cantabrica subsp. scotica 'William Buchanan Gold' can be found in the Heather Garden.
