Common name: Snakebark maple (shared with other maples), stripebark maple
Acer maximowiczii is a deciduous tree only native to China, and our specimen lives in the Sino-Himalayan Garden. The leaves are tri-lobed and turn golden yellow in autumn. It was named after the 19th-century German botanist Karl Maximovich and is sometimes mislabelled as A. maximowiczianum. It has beautiful, striped bark and is sometimes called A. pectinatum subsp. maximowiczii .
