Common name: European ash
Fraxinus excelsior is a large, deciduous tree native to Europe but now naturalized in eastern North America. It has purple flower buds in spring, then the leaves turn yellow in autumn. We have several species and a number of cultivars, mostly in the lawn beds northwest of the Perennial Garden.
