Common name: Crape myrtle
Lagerstroemia is a genus of trees and shrubs cultivated in warmer climates. It has flowers whose petals have a crepe-like texture in many colours. We have several cultivars in our Garden. In the Backyard Bird Garden, L. 'Natchez' has white flowers all summer. It is sometimes confused with Heptacodium minonoides. Most crape myrtles have flower colour ranging from pink to red to purple. L. indica 'Catawba' and 'Tonto' are along the Rhododendron Walk, and 'Zuni' is near the Fern Dell.
