Rhododendron (Obtusum Group) 'Kuruma-gaeshi' is a compact, low-growing evergreen shrub recognized by its delicate, small leaves and its pastel pink flowers. Obtusum varieties are native to the Kirishima mountains in southern Kyushu, Japan. They have been cultivated in Japan for centuries, since the Meiji era--1868 to 1912, but are not well known in the west. R. (Obtusum Group) 'Kuruma-gaeshi' was introduced by local nursery Piroche Plants in 1991.
R. (Obtusum Group) 'Kuruma-gaeshi' can be found in Bed 86 of the Japanese Collection.
