Common name: New England aster, Michaelmas daisy
Symphyotrichum novae-angliae (formerly Aster novae-angliae) is native to eastern North America and has been widely hybridized. Its bloom-time coincides with Michaelmas (the Feast of St. Michael), celebrated in England on Sept. 29. We have a number of culitvars around the Garden.
