Common name: Ocean spray, creambush, ironwood
Holodiscus discolor is a large, deciduous shrub native to Western North America. It has sprays of white flowers in early summer that are attractive to birds and pollinators. The wood was used by indigenous peoples because of its strength. There are several specimens scattered around the Garden.
