Common name: Red-leaved velvet senecio
Senecio cristobalensis is a perennial which we plant out in the summer sometimes on the Plaza, sometimes in the 'Tropical' beds. Its thick, large leaves are green on top and dark red on the bottom. Sometimes it sports little yellow flowers. It is truly a magnificent plant. Native to Mexico, it was collected by Dr. Dennis Breedlove. It is also called Roldana petasitis ssp. cristobalensis.
