Common name: Hardy rubber tree, Chinese thread tree, gutta percha (but not the true tree)
Eucommia ulmoides is a deciduous tree native to China, now planted mainly for its ornamental value. The shiny leaves look like elm leaves, hence the species name. All parts of the tree exude a sticky latex substance that can be used to produce rubber, but it is not related to the true rubber tree. It was also used in traditional medicines, but that caused its demise in the wild.
