Common names: hairy balls, bishops' balls, elephant or monkey balls, balloon cotton, and family jewels.
Gomphocarpus physocarpus is a perennial native to Africa. In late summer it sports puffballs covered with delicate green hairs. Our specimen is found in the Southern Hemisphere Garden and moves around from year to year.
