Common name: Cherry birch, sweet birch
Betula lenta is a birch tree which is native to Eastern North America. When young, its brown bark is quite smooth and resembles that of a cherry tree. Its sap is sometimes fermented to make birch beer, and wintergreen oil was made from its leaves.
