Common name: Chinese chestnut
Castanea mollissima is a deciduous tree native to China where it has been cultivated for millennia for its edible nuts. Flowers are produced in catkins. Our specimens are found in the Sino-Himalayan Garden.
See Garden Story about its anti-fungal protein used against blight.
