Common name: Chinese mahonia
Mahonia gracilipes is an evergreen shrub native to China. It was only recently introduced into Western horticulture in 1980. Its branching pattern is very graceful and delicate. It flowers in late summer, unlike other mahonias. The purple-red flowers are followed by small blue fruits. We have several specimens in the Garden, mostly in the Sino-Himalayan Garden.
