Common name: Chinese nutmeg tree. Chinese nutmeg yew
Torreya grandis is a large conifer native to China. Plant hunter Robert Fortune was the first European to describe the seed cones, which look very much like nutmeg. The glossy dark green leaves are yew-like.
In China there is a forest of 6,500 of these trees that are over 100 years old. Check out this video.
