These wooden boxes are part of an experiment by Simon Fraser University researchers to test whether bumble bee (bumblebee) queens use pheromones or scent when choosing a nesting site. The cardboard traps help protect bumble bees from bumble bee wax moths, which invade their nests.
These boxes are seen mainly in the BC Habitat Garden and the adjoining Sculpture Garden.
