Polystichum munitum is an evergreen fern native to western North America and is an important understory plant in temperate rainforests. It is widely planted throughout the Garden. The fronds were used by the Coast Salish as a traditional pain reliever, and the roasted rhizomes were a food source. Botanic name etymology.
