Common names: Sand coprosma, opal berry
Coprosma brunnea is native to New Zealand. It is a mat-forming, evergreen ground cover in the Madder family (Rubiaceae). C. brunnea is dioecious. It flowers in early fall, then produces translucent pale blue berries which are edible but bland. The wood can be used to make a yellow dye.
