Common names: Italian cypress, Mediterranean cypress
Cupressus sempervirens is an evergreen conifer native to hot, dry areas of the Mediterranean, but it does surprisingly well in our cool coastal summers. In our garden, it branches out, but in the Mediterranean area, thin, pointy-topped cultivars are usually planted.
For information about this plant and witchcraft, check out the Oct. 30, 2020 Garden Story.
This tree can grow to a great age, and there is a 4000 year-old specimen in Iran.
