Common name: Mastic-leaf prickly ash, Sichuan pepper tree, Korean pepper tree
Zanthoxylum schinifolium is a species of deciduous flowering trees in the citrus family, Rutaceae. It is native to China and Japan. Z. schinifolium leaves can be used as flavouring. The peppercorn-like fruits, called Sichuan pepper, are used as a spice which has a peppery taste and sometimes leaves a tingling sensation in the mouth. It is toxic in large quantities.
