Diospyros kaki 'Hachiya'
Common name: Persimmon, kaki
Diospyros kaki 'Hachiya' is native to Asia, and this cultivar can produce fruit in cooler climates, like our own. Small waxy white flowers in late spring. The fruits have a pointy bottom and need to be fully ripe before being eaten. Our tree in the Backyard Bird Garden hides the fruits under its leaves.
Update Sept. 30, 2020: This tree was removed because the fruit was too heavy for the branches. It will be replaced.
