Common name: Chinese parasol storax, woodyfruit
Melliodendron xylocarpum is a recent (1990s) introduction from China, and one of the first trees was planted in the West was at UBC Botanic Garden. Ours was planted in the Sino-Himalayan Garden in 2016. It looks a bit like a magnolia in flower. It bloomed at the end of April 2021 and has doubled in size over the summer of 2021. It is deciduous.
