Common name: Muku tree
Aphananthe aspera is a deciduous tree tucked away in the northwest corner of the Fern Dell and native to East Asia. It came from UBC Botanical Garden in 1987, grown from seed collected in Hyang Dong village in Korea in 1985 . In the early summer of 2020, barred owls were seen among its branches.
Other hardy members of this species survived the atomic bomb blast in Hiroshima.
