Common name: big-leaved rhododendron
Rhododendron 'Cynthia' was planted along the Rhodo Walk in 1972 and came from the Greig collection at Stanley Park. It has beautiful dark pink flowers and blooms in mid-May.
Local botanist and landscape architect Clive Justice tells the story of how this cultivar was hybridized in England in the mid-19th century. One specimen came to Ladysmith, BC, before the turn of the 20th century and is still flourishing.
