Magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel' has strappy pink flowers before the leaves emerge. M. x loebneri was hybrized by Max Löbner in Germany before WWI, and later this chance hybrid appeared in Leonard Messel's garden, Nymans, in Sussex.
