Our Japanese stone lantern was a gift from the City of Yokohama, originally placed near the bonsai troughs but then moved in 2015 to the new Japanese bed.
In Japanese, ‘toro’ means lantern. Now mostly used as garden ornaments, these lanterns have a long history in Japanese cultural and religious practices.
