Common name: Purple amaranth, red amaranth, and prince's feather
Amaranthus cruentus is a seasonal plant in our Garden and can be found in summer when its dark red plumes add a nice accent. It is native to the Americas and is an ancient food source. It can be popped, cooked into porridge or ground into flour. According to one of the gardeners, it is a vigorous self-sower.
