Camellia japonica 'Gloire de Nantes'
Camellia japonica 'Gloire de Nantes' blooms in mid-winter but sometimes starts in late fall.. It has dark pink flowers and shiny ovate leaves. It was hybridized in France in the mid-19th century (Nantes is a large city on the Atlantic coast and is a sister city of Seattle) and introduced to the trade in 1895.
