Common name: ornamental rhubarb
Rheum palmatum var. tanguticum is a striking cousin of edible rhubarb that grows to two metres and has beautiful autumn colour. It is located at the entrance to the Sino-Himalayan Garden at the end of the Cherry Walk. Native to the Tangut region of Tibet (hence the epithet), it is poisonous, although the roots have been used in traditional medicines.
