Nigella damascena is an annual found in the Mediterranean Garden. Its flowers are white, pink, or blue and are surrounded by fine leaves. The flower produces a green, horned pod that, when dry, contains black seeds. While the seeds are edible, another species of Nigella, N. sativa, is widely used in South Asian cooking as a spice.
