Common Name: Leopard plant
Ligularia przewalskii is a shade lover native to Asia. In our area it is a major slug and snail attractant, so the gardeners keep an eagle eye on it, especially in the spring. Ligularia is from the Latin ligula meaning strap, in reference to the shape of the flowers. Nicholas Przewalski was a 19th century Russian explorer and plant collector. 'Leopard plant' is the common name for many plants in the genus, some of which have leopard spots on their foliage. Not this plant, however.
