Common Name: Golden Chain Tree, laburnum

Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' is one of the Garden's jewels in May when the allée of yellow blossoms is underplanted with Allium hollandicum 'Purple Sensation'. All parts of the plant are poisonous, and it is no longer planted on city property elsewhere in Vancouver due to the high toxicity of the tree to humans and animals.

Several of our trees have been replaced over the years, as seen by the different-sized trunks. One problem is that heavy rain collects on the flowers and makes the trees top-heavy. The photo shows a tree that came down in May 2020 after a night of rain.
