Common name: Eastern redbud
We have several different cultivars of this tree in the Garden.
Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ is a deciduous large shrub or small tree native from Southern Ontario (hence the epithet 'canadensis') south to Texas. It has small, rosy-pink flowers in spring before it leafs out. The leaves are purple, changing to red and orange in autumn. Our specimen is in the back of the Black Garden (bed 35D).
